Resumen: |
El propósito de este trabajo es presentar el estado de nuestra profesión en el ámbito asistencial, docente e investigador en el nuevo milenio, a través de un estudio bibliográfico. La cirugía ortopédica debe adaptarse a las corrientes de los cuidados médicos, sometida a los cambios tecnológicos, sociales y políticos. Nuestra supervivencia debe hacerse sobre la base de la flexibilidad ordenada. El médico debe buscar el bienestar del paciente por encima del suyo propio, para ganarse el respeto y la confianza del público. La enseñanza debe cambiar a través de aspectos interactivos y cooperativos sobre problemas del paciente. La investigación es cada vez más difícil; hace falta tiempo y recursos económicos. Es importante atender no solo los problemas quirúrgicos, sino también los no quirúrgicos. Siendo sobre todo médicos y no solo operadores romperemos el tabú sobre la industria quirúrgica, entre la que algunos nos encasillan. |
Summary: |
The present paper aims to focus the state of our discipline from the perspective of the clinical practice, academics and research in the new millennium. Orthopedic surgery must adapt to the modern trends in patients care under the effect of technologic, social and politic changes. Our survivorship as professionals is to be based upon a methodical flexibility. The physician has to look for the patient’s well, beyond his own, to gain respect and trust from the general public. The teaching must change trough interactive and cooperative means about patients issues. The research is becoming more difficult since more time and budget are required and not always available. It is important to assess surgical and also not surgical challenges. Being physicians in first place, and not only operators, will breakaway the taboo about surgical industry and its influence on clinical practice. |
