En 1988 Sulzer Orthopedic (Winterthur, Suiza) desarrolló un par de fricción metal-metal que se puede adaptar a diversos modelos de artroplastia de cadera, buscando mejorar los resultados de los pares de fricción con polietileno. Interesados por las posibles ventajas del par metal-metal se realizó una serie clínica cuyos resultados se presentan en este trabajo. Efectuamos un estudio retrospectivo de 52 artroplastias totales primarias de cadera intervenidas entre los años 1993 y 1995. Los implantes utilizados han sido el vástago no cementado SL Alloclasic de Zweymüller y el cotilo no cementado troncocónico roscado CSF de Zweymüller con articulación metal-metal. Los 52 casos intervenidos corresponden a 47 coxartrosis y 5 necrosis de cabeza femoral. Los criterios de inclusión han sido tener su documentación completa con un seguimiento medio de 6 años. Aplicando la valoración de la escala de Merle D´Aubigné modificada por Charnley, los resultados excelentes y buenos alcanzan el 96% de los casos. En dos casos el resultado ha sido malo, uno por infección profunda y otro por osificación periprotésica Brooker 4. Los resultados con el par metal-metal a distancia de 6 años han sido favorables. |

In 1988 Sulzer Orthopedic (Winterthur, Switzerland) developed a metal-metal friction for different models of hip arthroplasty, to improve the results of polyethylene friction models. We were very interested in analyze the advantages of metal-metal we have done a restrospective study of 52 total hip arthroplasties treated from 1993 and 1995. The implants have been a noncemented stem Zweymüller SL Alloclasic and a noncemented threaded Zweymüller CSF cup with metal-metal friction. Fourty seven cases were coxarthritis and five cases were femoral avascular necrosis. We have studied the patients with a medium follow-up of 6 years. Applying the scale of of Merle D´Aubigné modified by Charnley, the 96% of the patients had excellent and good results. The results were bad in two patients, one had a deep infection and the other had periarticular ossifications Brooker type 4. The global results with the metal-metal friction with a minimum six years of follow-up have been positive. |
