El biovidrio surge como alternativa al tratamiento clásico en dos tiempos de la osteomielitis focal crónica. Permite la erradicación de la infección en un solo acto quirúrgico sin necesidad de añadir antibiótico local gracias a su mecanismo de acción, facilitando el relleno del defecto óseo residual tras el desbridamiento. Se realizó una revisión retrospectiva de 29 pacientes tratados con biovidrio con el objetivo de analizar los resultados y complicaciones secundarias. Se observó una mejoría significativa de los parámetros analíticos consiguiendo erradicar la infección en el 80% de los pacientes. El 31% presentaron supuración serosa, con resolución espontánea de la misma en el 55% de los pacientes en los 7 primeros días tras la intervención quirúrgica. Por tanto, el biovidrio es eficaz frente a múltiples microorganismos con buenos resultados en cuanto a la tasa de recurrencia y pocas complicaciones, si bien se requieren estudios a largo plazo para confirmar estos resultados. |
Summary: |
Bioactive glass emerges as an alternative to the classic two-stage treatment of chronic focal osteomyelitis. It allows the eradication of the infection in a single surgical act without the need to add a local antibiotic thanks to its mechanism of action, facilitating the filling of the residual bone defect after debridement. A retrospective review of 29 patients treated with bioactive glass was carried out in order to analyze the results and secondary complications. We observed a significant improvement in the analytical parameters, with complete remission of the infection in 80% of the patients. 31% showed wound serum leakage with spontaneous resolution in 55% of patients in the first 7 days after surgery. Therefore, bioactive glass is effective against multiple microorganisms, with good results in recurrence rate and few complications, even though long-term studies are required to confirm these results |
