El origen de “asentamiento de huesos” -tratamiento y restitución de articulaciones- se pierde en la niebla de la antigüedad, y en el desarrollo histórico de la medicina hay muchas referencias sobre la práctica de “asentamiento de huesos”, tanto por practicantes cualificados como no cualificados que hayan tenido preparación formal en los métodos aceptados. Aunque la filosofía no intervencionista de Hugh Owen Thomas está lejos de ser popular, lo que realmente desconcertaba a sus colegas era el hecho de que él , un provinciano totalmente desconocido hubiese decidido criticar a algunas de las distinguidas figuras del país, por lo que la profesión decidió que Thomas no era un gentleman. |
Summary: |
The origin of bonesetting -treatment and replacement of joints- is lost in the mist of antiquity. In historical development of medicine, there are many references to the practice of bonesettings by qualified and unqualified practicioners (who take up the practice of healing wihout having had any formal training in the accepted medical procedures of the day). Although Hugh Owen Thomas, non-interventionist philosophy was far from popular, what really upset his collegues was the fact that he, a total unknown provincial, had chosen to criticise some of the most distinguished figures in the land. Almost to a man the profession decided that Thomas was not a gentleman. |
