Summary:
A retrospective study of 814 fractures of the tibia shaft in 803 patients, is revíewed.
The authors have made a c1assification of the fractures with special emphasis at the morphological type and productive mechanism, as welI a review of the treatment
carried out, eonservatlve and surgical, and the analysis of complications and results obtained. They emphasized the complications by means of compression and
neutralization platings.
The authors believes that there are not an ideal method of treatment and the different procedures had to be submited to a criticar inquiry founded in the long series of patients. However, the best results in their series were obtained by intramedulary nailing, specialIy when they used interlocking medulIary nailing.
