Resumen:
Los autores realizan un estudio epidemiológico de 306 pacientes con fractura diafisaria de fémur atendidos el período comprendido entre 1977 y 1986, refiriendo en los resultados finales únicamente los 228 casos en que se hizo un seguimiento completo.
Los accidentes de tráfico han sido la principal causa de lesión, 76'8%, siendo la mayor incidencia en los varones de 15-25 años.
Las fracturas abiertas supusieron el 14'7% y únicamente hubo un 3'7% de afectaciones vasculonerviosas.
Se efectuó tratamiento quirúrgico en el 70% de los casos tratamiento incruento en el 20'5% y en el 9'5% restante no se realizó ningún tratamiento definitivo por trasladarse a otro Centro. En los enclavados endomedulares se
permite el apoyo a los 32'3 días yen las osteosíntesis con placas a los 82'5 dias.
El 58'8% de los pacientes curaron definitivamente entre 6-8 meses.
El resultado global atendiendo a los criterios de Denker-Connolly fue de bueno en el 85'9%, regular en el l l '8% y malo en el! '3%.
Summary:

An epidemiologic analysis is made of 306 patients with femoral shaft fractures attended between 1977 and 1986. The authors have referred in the final results only to the 228 cases with a complete foIlow up.
Traffic accidents habe been the principal cause of injury (76''8%), and the greatest incidence was in men of 15-25 years.
Open fractures accounted for 14''7%, and there was only 3''7% of neurovascular troubles.

Surgical treatment was carried out in 70% ofthe cases, bloodless was made because they were moved to other hospitals. In intramedullary nailing support is permited 32''3 days after operating, and in ostheosyntesis with
plates 82''3 days after.
58''5% of the patients were cured definitively between 6 and 8 monts after.
The complete result following the criterions ofDenker and Connolly was good in 85''9%, regular in 11''8%, and bad in 1''30/0.
